Miguel Cabrera is a Baseball Challenge beast. Can you afford not to have him on your roster?
Looking for another way to satisfy your fantasy baseball urges? Then sign up for Baseball Challenge, where you have to balance both finding the best players and maintaining the salary cap.
For those new to the game, you'll start with a budget of $50 million to build a roster of 10 players: a catcher, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, left fielder, center fielder, right fielder, designated hitter and a pitching staff. Note that each outfield position is separate, and that you draft an entire pitching staff instead of individual pitchers.
You get points for their performances based on this system:
- Hitters get one point each for every run scored, total base, RBI, walk and stolen base.
- Pitching staffs get points in this way: 1 out = +1 (complete IP = +3), ER = -3, Hit = -1, BB = -1, K = +1, Win = +5.
That's all there is to it, scoring-wise.
Obviously, the big wrinkle is the salary cap, as you'll have to balance drafting high-priced stars and potential bargain-priced sleepers who could eventually rise in value based on their performance. Luckily, we now have a floating salary cap, so if your players rise in value, so will your salary cap, giving you extra flexibility to improve your roster. Locking in those bargain sleepers early could pay off in the long run.
You have the option to play either weekly (where you lock in a roster once a week) or daily (you can change your roster each day), depending on what type of challenge suits you best.
Best of luck in picking out superstars, landing those bargains and building the best team money can buy. Happy drafting!
