RULES: DRAFT METHODS
Your draft is an important factor for a successful season. Teams that begin with a strong draft are most likely in good shape for the rest of the season. If you are drafting in a standard league, each team drafts 13 players so a total of 130 players will be drafted. In custom leagues, your player total will depend on however your League Manager sets up the league's roster settings.
Below are the four (4) draft methods (click on a draft type below to see specific rules):
- Custom Leagues Only
- Offline draft
DRAFTING PLAYERS USING THE ESPN FLASH DRAFT APPLICATION
To draft a player, click on his name. Doing this will highlight the player's row and add him to the Selected Player area. Click on the Draft Player button to draft the player onto your team. If you're not on the clock, you will not be allowed to draft the player until it's your turn, but you can sort players in your draft list or add them to your Player Queue. You can filter to view available players by position or by team, and you can search by the player's last name. You can also use the column header links to sort players by a particular statistic.
If your draft display seems off, try reloading the application. In Custom leagues, the League Manager will be able to draft players for other teams using the app. In order to draft for another team, the LM must first PAUSE the draft, then select the Draft option under the appropriate team name. The LM can then draft a player and continue drafting for other teams, if need be. The LM then can resume the draft by clicking the "Resume Draft" link. In Custom leagues the LM can pause and resume their draft as many times as needed.
DRAFTING PLAYERS USING THE LITE DRAFT APPLICATION
Participants can also select players using the Lite Draft, which is linked from the League Office and Clubhouse pages when the league is in draft mode. To select players via the Lite Draft, you will want to click on the player's name and then hit the "Draft Player" button. The LM in custom leagues will also be able to pause the draft and select players for other teams.
THE LIVE DRAFT LOBBY
The Live Draft Lobby is where it all starts once you are ready to join a free Standard league or a Prize-Eligible league and you would like to draft immediately. Once you're there, click on a room name. If you are ready, click here to go to the FBA '10 Live Draft Lobby.
NOTE: The listed Standard league names are for quick identity purposes only and will change to generic league names that you can customize by league vote after the draft is complete. After entering the lobby you will see the Join this League button. Another method is to locate a Standard league to join is via the League Directory.
WAITING FOR THE DRAFT TO START
After you successfully join a lobby league, your team name and info will appear on the page in bold. The league's draft start time is displayed in the middle of the page and on the countdown clock below it.
NOTE: In order for a lobby league to convert into draft mode, the entire league must be filled when the countdown clock reaches zero. If open slots remain, the league will have its draft time continually pushed back in five-minute intervals until it is filled. Once your draft has filled, it will convert to draft mode once the scheduled time arrives.
STARTING THE DRAFT
If your league is full at the listed start time, the lobby room page will automatically reload itself with a Launch Draft link. Click this link to launch the Flash draft. You can also access the Lite Draft application in this same area.
THE MOCK DRAFT LOBBY
The Mock Draft Lobby is a great way to practice drafting. It works in the same way as the Live Draft Lobby. The only difference is that the mock draft does not count! The Mock Draft Lobby can be used for draft practice or for testing purposes. We encourage you to try it out.
