The object of the game is to have your squad score the most fantasy points, but there are many ways to get there and build the "perfect" fantasy team. First off, all fantasy owners must build their roster of two goaltenders, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards within the limits of a $100 million salary cap. Do you spend highly on midfielders and forwards? How much should you allocate toward defenders and goaltenders?

Then each week, owners must set a starting roster of 11 total players and pick from one of seven different formations that suits the owner's needs. In addition, an owner designates a team "captain" who will score double points during a particular game week. Between each game week, fantasy owners can tweak their roster, making player transfers and moving players between the active roster and the bench. Owners must make their moves before each week's deadline, remembering that they have a limited number of player transfers per game segment, so that they can't completely overhaul their roster on a weekly basis.

There will be two game segments this year, each roughly covering the first and second halves of the MLS season, meaning rosters and salaries will completely reset after the midpoint of the season. Fantasy owners will compete for prizes by trying to score the most points during each segment, but there will also be a prize for the owner recording the most points throughout the entire season (over both segments of the season).
