StLSt. Louis Blues
Chris Butler
Apr 12: Butler collected an assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Wild. Butler finished the game with the second-lowest TOI (19:18) among the Blues' defensemen, which puts his status on some shaky ground heading into the postseason. With coach Ken Hitchcock resting both of his star blueliners, Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk, in Saturday's regular-season finale, Butler seems at risk of opening the first round of the playoffs in the press box.

Mar 8: Butler tallied a shorthanded goal in his return to the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs. With Jay Bouwmeester a late scratch due to an illness, Butler made just his third appearance in a little over two weeks. Though he had a productive outing Saturday, Butler doesn't figure to enjoy a stranglehold on a regular lineup spot going forward, especially with Zbynek Michalek (concussion) and Kevin Shattenkirk (abdominal surgery) nearing returns to action.

Feb 4: Butler attempted three shots and contributed the assist on Jaden Schwartz's overtime game-winner Tuesday against the Lightning. Kevin Shattenkirk appears set to miss significant time due to abdominal surgery, opening up a regular lineup spot for Butler in the interim. Butler turned in a productive showing in his return to active duty, but he won't have nearly the fantasy upside that Shattenkirk provided for owners. Over 21 games this season, Butler has a mere five points.

Dec 31: Butler scored a goal for the second consecutive night in Tuesday's loss to Nashville. Despite not seeing any kind of increase in ice time over these two games -- he still skated only 13:30 on Tuesday, a miserably low amount for a blueliner -- Butler has provided an offensive spark for the Blues. However, with a career high of 21 points -- and just four this year -- he's not likely to keep it up.

Dec 30: Butler netted his first goal of the season in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Avalanche. Butler has claimed a regular spot in the St. Louis lineup while Carl Gunnarsson (concussion) remains unavailable, but his stay-at-home tendencies won't yield much value most nights. He's produced only three points in his 15 games this season.

Dec 14: Butler should draw back into the lineup Tuesday, according to coach Ken Hitchcock, reports Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. With Carl Gunnarsson suffering the effects of a concussion, Butler is in a three-man rotation at the back end of the Blues defense. Butler has one assist and is plus-3 in 9 games with the Blues this year.

Nov 15: Butler will be recalled from AHL Chicago on Saturday, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports. After Jordan Leopold was dealt to the Blue Jackets earlier in the day, Butler will join the Blues to serve as the team's seventh defenseman. The veteran is unlikely to see much frequent action in games and represents more of a fallback option in the event one of the Blues' other defensemen suffers an injury.

Oct 7: Butler was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Tuesday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Waived earlier in camp by the Blues, Butler remained with the Blues as an extra body for the final handful of preseason games. The 27-year-old has 349 games of NHL experience on his ledger and should find his way back to St. Louis later on this season.

Sep 29: Butler was placed on waivers by the Blues on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Butler was one of a slew of players competing for the seventh spot on defense for the Blues, but he failed to do enough in training camp to warrant a stay with the parent club. Assuming Butler clears waivers, he's slated to open the campaign at AHL Chicago.
