TorToronto Maple Leafs
James van Riemsdyk
Apr 8: Van Riemsdyk fired six shots on net Tuesday, but like his fellow Leafs, he couldn't solve the Lightning goaltenders. He finished minus-2 in a 3-0 loss. JVR has 271 SOG this season and 30 goals, but we're pretty sure he'd trade it all for a playoff berth. And that's precisely what the Leafs lost Tuesday night.

Apr 3: Van Riemsdyk hit the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career in Thursday's win over Boston. He's done it in 76 games, so there's always a chance that JVR can add a couple more by season's end. His overall pace has slowed of late -- he has four goals in his last 10 games -- but van Riemsdyk should be a solid play until season's end.

Mar 28: Van Riemsdyk matched an NHL record for fastest goal from the start of a period when he scored four seconds into the second period of Friday's game against the Flyers. Tyler Bozak won the opening face-off and stepped through his man, pushing the puck toward the left wing toward JVR. The winger took the puck a couple of strides before ripping it home top cheddar over opposing goalie Steve Mason's shoulder. Van Riemsdyk now has 29 goals, including two in his last two games.

Mar 25: Van Riemsdyk scored his 28th goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Blues. It is just his second goal in his last 12 games. Those 12 games have been rough for Van Riemsdyk -- he has just five points and a minus-six rating, and the Leafs have gone 4-8.

Mar 11: Van Riemsdyk returned to Tuesday night's games, TSN Radio 1050 reports. Van Riemsdyk went back to the locker room after taking a tough hit from teammate Dion Phaneuf, but has apparently been cleared to return to action. Crisis averted, for now.

Mar 11: Van Riemsdyk exited Tuesday's game after taking a hard hit from teammate Dion Phaneuf, TSN Radio 1050 reports. Van Riemsdyk has a concussion history, which makes this situation especially concerning. Phaneuf was gunning for an opposing player, but after an unfortunate miss, took out Van Riemsdyk in a high speed collision. A Van Riemsdyk injury would be a tough blow to the Leafs, as the starting left winger is second on the team in both goals (27) and total points (53).

Mar 1: Van Riemsdyk scored two goals, including a shorthanded marker, in Saturday's overtime loss to Montreal. The points stretched his current streak to four games and seven points, including four goals. He has five points in two games since returning from the Olympics where he had suffered a throat injury. He sure doesn't seem to be suffering any ill effects. And he just continues to rack up career scoring marks (his 26 goals and 52 points are both well beyond his previous bests). You know what to do.

Feb 27: Van Riemsdyk set up three goals Thursday in an overtime loss to the Islanders. He now has 50 points for the first time in an NHL season. He has been unstoppable of late -- he has 13 points, including five goals, in his last 10 NHL games. You know what to do.

Feb 25: Van Riemsdyk (soreness) got the day off practice Tuesday, reports the Toronto Star. He was banged up at the Olympics after taking a puck to the throat, but is expected to able to suit up in the Leafs' first game back.

Feb 24: The Leafs have said that van Riemsdyk (upper body) is feeling fine after being banged up in Team USA's shutout loss to Finland on Saturday, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports. Van Riemsdyk saw limited minutes Saturday while dealing with some swelling in his throat, but the Leafs have no fears about him missing any game action coming out of the break. Along with Phil Kessel, Van Riemsdyk is expected to receive several days of practice off just to afford him some rest after a taxing Olympics.

Feb 22: Van Riemsdyk (throat) has seen limited ice time in Saturday's game following his return from injury, according to CBC's game coverage. It's not known if he's struggling with swelling in the throat and that's keeping his shifts short and far between. There's also the problem of the game being out of reach for the Americans -- that may be the bigger issue. Fingers crossed this isn't a long-term issue.

Feb 22: Van Riemsdyk has returned to the ice for Team USA, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com reports. Van Riemsdyk was hit in the throat while blocking a shot late in the first period but has returned and is apparently.

Feb 22: Van Riemsdyk left the ice late in the first period after getting hit in the throat with a puck during Saturday's game against Finland, Helene Elliot of the L.A. Times reports. Van Riemsdyk blocked a shot and took a puck to the throat towards the end of the first period and skated very slowly to the bench. He'll have the full intermission to rest, but it is still not clear whether or not he'll return to the game.

Feb 17: Van Riemsdyk has contributed four assists over three games for the United States. The excellent play of Van Riemsdyk and fellow linemates Phil Kessel and Joe Pavelski is as big of a reason as any why the United States was able to claim the No. 2 overall seed after the completion of pool play. He'll continue to receive ample ice time until his productivity wanes.

Feb 6: Van Riemsdyk picked up his 23rd goal of the season in Thursday's win over Tampa Bay. He has eight goals and seven assists in his last 14 games. That flu he had earlier in the week is long gone. He is increasing his career bests with every passing game and is clearly making an impact in front of the net. Take full advantage.

Feb 4: van Riemsdyk (illness) is expected to play Tuesday against the Panthers, Mark Masters of TSN.ca reports. The forward was given the day off Monday after feeling a little ill, but it sounds as though he won't be forced to miss any game action because of it. In addition to the illness, van Riemsdyk has dealt with a foot injury recently, but it hasn't hindered his production at all. He has delivered six points over his last four games.

Feb 4: van Riemsdyk (flu) indicated Tuesday that he is feeling better, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports. van Riemsdyk missed Monday's practice, but it sounds like he has a decent chance of suiting up for Tuesday's 7:30 ET contest against the Panthers after catching an early flight to join his teammates in Florida.

Feb 3: Van Riemsdyk missed Monday's practice due to the flu, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports. Consider him day-to-day for now, with the chance of being ready to return to action for Tuesday's game in Florida. JVR has 22 goals and 23 assists through 55 games this season.

Feb 1: Van Riemsdyk (foot) set up two goals in Saturday's win over the Senators. He's currently riding a four-game, six-point scoring streak. He has two goals and four assists in that span and 45 points on the season. He has clearly found his comfort zone -- and his game -- in blue and white. His game is on the way up.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Feb 1: Van Riemsdyk (foot) will play Saturday against the Senators, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports. The forward was on the ice for morning skate and pregame warmups and looks like he won't have to miss any action on account of the injury. He's provided two goals and two assists over his last three games and looks to be a safe play against Ottawa.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Jan 31: Van Riemsdyk is dealing with a sore foot thanks to a pair of new skates, but he is not expected to miss any action, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports. Van Riemsdyk was held out of practice Friday to rest his foot, but it appears he should be good to go for the Maple Leafs' next game Saturday against the Senators.

Jan 31: Van Riemsdyk did not take part in Friday's practice, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports. The reason for van Riemsdyk's absence was not provided, but he did leave Thursday's game early, so it's possible he is dealing with some sort of injury. Expect another update on van Riemsdyk's status prior to Toronto's next game Saturday.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Jan 30: Van Riemsdyk scored a goal and added an assist in Thursday's win. The goal was his 22nd and a new career high. The assist was also a new career best (21). He's on pace for a 65-point season. But he has 16 points since the Christmas break (17 games) and could do even better than 65 if he continues to push like he is right now. He's an auto-roll right now.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Jan 28: Van Riemsdyk (lower body) netted the game winner Tuesday in a 3-2 victory over the Lightning. And with that, he equalled his career mark in goals (21) and established a new career best in points (41). He has 10 points in his last 10 games and 15 in his last 18. Ride him hard. We bet the Flyers would if he was still wearing orange and ... wait, too bad, so sad Paul Holmgren. You did this to yourself.

Jan 27: Coach Randy Carlyle said after Monday's practice that van Riemsdyk (lower body) would be fine to play Tuesday vs. the Lightning, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports. van Riemsdyk looked to be questionable for Tuesday after tweaking his leg during Monday's skate, but Carlyle extinguished much of the concern when he met with the media after the session. Carlyle said van Riemsdyk is just nursing some nagging injuries, and while more maintenance days may be required going forward, it's not expected to prevent him from suiting up for any games.

Jan 27: van Riemsdyk was forced to exit Monday's practice early with an undisclosed injury, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports. van Riemsdyk appeared to tweak his leg while skating during a drill and was held out of the rest of the session. We should hear further word on the extent of the injury, as well as his availability for Tuesday's game vs. the Lightning, following the team's morning skate.

Jan 22: Van Riemsdyk scored a power-play goal -- his 20th goal of the year -- and contributed an assist in Tuesday's win in Colorado. He's found twine five times in the last seven games, adding three assists in that span. After a hot start to the yer, JVR faded in November and December, but he's coming on again here in the new year.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Jan 14: Van Riemsdyk stretched his goal and point streak to three games and five points (three goals, two assists) with a goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over the Bruins. He also had eight shots on net. His goal was the winner. He, Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak are all on fire right now. You need to take advantage.

Jan 12: Van Riemsdyk scored in regulation and again in the shootout to lead the Leafs to a 3-2 win over the Devils on Sunday night. JVR now has a power-play goal in each of his last two games and an assist, too. Seven of his 17 goals this season have come on the power play and match his power-play goal total for the previous two full seasons. His breakout continues.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Jan 10: Van Riemsdyk notched a goal and an assist in Friday's loss to Washington, giving him four points in the last five games. JVR has been putting up solid numbers for Toronto with 33 points through 44 games. He's playing well alongside Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak, the line which poses the biggest threat for the opposition. He put five pucks on goal in Friday's loss and has 15 shots over the last five games.

Jan 1: Van Riemsdyk scored his 15th goal of the season in Wednesday's Winter Classic win over Detroit. He now has a point in his last three games. He had so many opportunities Wednesday, so it was only a matter of time before he found twine. The goal was his first in nine games, but it looks like the return of Tyler Bozak has injected some serious life into the Leafs' top line, including JVR. Take full advantage.

Dec 29: Van Riemsdyk picked up an assist Sunday in a win over the Hurricanes. He has three assists in his last four games, but just two goals in his last 14 games. It might be coincidental, but that's about the same span that linemate Tyler Bozak missed with an upper-body injury. Perhaps this gifted sniper will get back on track with Bozak back in the lineup.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Dec 12: Van Riemsdyk scored his 14th goal of the season in Thursday's loss to St. Louis. His career best is 21, so it looks like that might be shattered. It's his first point in the last three games (all losses) and is accompanied by a minus-4 rating in those four outings. There will be stretches like this as the Leafs figure out exactly who they are, but that shouldn't stop you from rolling him -- the upside is far to great.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Dec 7: Van Riemsdyk scored a power-play goal, added two even-strength assists and found twine in the shootout in a dominant performance against Ottawa on Saturday night. His current point streak now stands at four games and six points (two goals, four assists) and he has nine points (four goals, five assists) in his last six. #sizzle

Dec 3: Van Riemsdyk picked up an assist in Tuesday's loss to the Sharks. He now has five points (three goals, two assists) in his last four games. He's currently on pace to deliver 66 points, a number than would shatter his current career best of 40 (2010-11). He's becoming the power winger that we all dreamed about back in 2007 when he was drafted. Use him well.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Nov 27: Van Riemsdyk scored twice and added an assist in Toronto's shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. One of the goals came on the power play. He'd gone three games without a point, so this outburst was a welcome sight. He now has 11 goals and 19 points in 23 games, and should deliver a 70-point season. You know what to do.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Nov 19: Van Riemsdyk picked up an assist in Tuesday's win over the Islanders. He now has three points in his last two games. It just so happens that he's been back on the wing in those two games after struggling to adjust to center. All we can say is bring it on, baby -- he's about to take a step up the ladder as far as wingers go. Enjoy.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Nov 16: Van Riemsdyk scored twice, including once on the power play, in Saturday's win over the Sabres. The points snapped a five-game drought. Well, there's proof positive the center experiment is over -- he's a great winger and a poor pivot. It was his first game back at wing after skating at center for several games. He crashed the net and both goals were beautiful tips. Expect his previous production level to return.

Nov 4: Van Riemsdyk centered the top line at Monday's practice, according to Toronto Star. He skated with Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul. The Leafs tried this experiment early in training camp when it looked like they'd be thin down the middle. That experiment didn't last long, but this one might -- the team is without both Tyler Bozak and Dave Bolland because of injuries. JvR and Phil Kessel already have great chemistry, as do Kessel and Loops. It remains to be seen, though, if the defensive responsibilites will impact JvR's game.

Oct 30: Van Riemsdyk stretched his point streak to five games and seven points when he scored his seventh goal of the season in Wednesday's win over Calgary. The big man has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in 12 games this season, but this goal was an impressive short-handed effort. You know what to do.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 29: Van Riemsdyk scored his sixth goal and went plus-3 in Tuesday's win over the Oilers. That's a four-game point streak for JVR and 10 points in his last seven games -- very impressive work. Despite only skating 14:27 on Tuesday, he managed to be on the ice with top-liners Nazem Kadri and Phil Kessel for three of Toronto's four goals.

Oct 26: Van Riemsdyk picked up two assists in Saturday's win over the Penguins. He now has five assists in his last three games. He has five goals and six assists in 10 games this season and he's living the dream on Phil Kessel's line. Roll him with confidence.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 22: Van Riemsdyk picked up two assists in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Ducks. He set up Phil Kessel both times and is showing remarkable chemistry with the speedy sniper. JVR's back issues seem to be behind him, as he was bulling his way around he offensive zone all night. He even earned a penalty shot when he blew past a Duck and muscled his way to the net. We're a little worried about the back spasms, so we're going to watch him carefully. He's gold when healthy, but his new power game may result in a bit more downtime for maintenance.

Oct 19: Van Riemsdyk (back) will play Saturday against the Blackhawks, the Globe and Mail's James Mirtle reports. As expected, van Riemsdyk was able to make it through pregame warmups with no apparent back issues and will return to game action following a two-game hiatus. He has accrued six points through his first six games for the Leafs.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 18: Coach Randy Carlyle said Friday that there is a good chance van Riemsdyk (back) will play Saturday against the Blackhawks, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 The FAN reports. He has missed two games with back spasms, but after practicing Friday it seems like he will be ready to go Saturday night. The Leafs will likely make an official announcement on his status closer to game time.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 18: After missing the last two games with back spasms, van Riemsdyk will practice Friday, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports. Although nothing is official, this bodes well for van Riemsdyk's chances of playing Saturday against the Blackhawks. He already has five goals and an assist in six games this season.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 17: Van Riemsdyk (back) will not play Thursday against the Hurricanes, Mark Masters of TSN reports. Coach Randy Carlyle cleared up van Riemsdyk's injury situation a bit Thursday morning, saying that the 24-year-old is day-to-day with back spasms. Van Riemsdyk will miss his second straight game Thursday, and his status for Saturday is uncertain, but when he's active, you want him in your fantasy lineup. In six games so far this season, van Riemsdyk has five goals, an assist and a plus-3 rating.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 16: Van Riemsdyk (upper body) participated in drills at practice Wednesday, David Alter of Sportsnet reports. Van Riemsdyk was wearing a green no-contact jersey, and was skating as an extra forward on line rushes. Keep an eye on his status during Thursday's morning skate for a better idea of whether he'll suit up against the Hurricanes.

Oct 15: Van Riemsdyk (general soreness) will not play Tuesday against the Wild, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports. Van Riemsdyk had been a game-time decision heading into Tuesday's contest, but he was officially ruled out after skipping pregame warmups. The 24-year-old has potted five goals and added an assist in six games this season en route to a plus-3 rating.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 15: Van Riemsdyk (general soreness) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Wild, TSN's Mark Masters reports. Van Riemsdyk missed Monday's practice with what was being called a "maintenance day," and it appears he's still feeling banged up. He's off to a great start to the season for the Leafs, with five goals and an assist in six games. Owners in daily leagues will want to monitor his status for Tuesday night, as he's going to be a game-time call.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 14: Updating an earlier report, Van Riemsdyk missed practice Monday with what his coach Randy Carlyle characterized as a "maintenance day," reports the Toronto Star. He scored two goals Saturday and his new approach -- playing down low -- means he'll take a pounding every night. A few maintenance days here and there will hopefully keep him strong for game days.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 14: Van Riemsdyk was not on the ice for Monday's practice, Mark Masters of TSN reports. No reason has been provided yet regarding JVR's absence, but further details should surface after practice. David Clarkson was skating on the top line in van Riemsdyk's place Monday.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 12: Van Riemsdyk scored two goals in Saturday's OT win over the Oilers. He's been money in the bank, at least so far. That 35-goal season doesn't seem unreasonable at this point.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Oct 10: Van Riemsdyk was named the game's second star in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Nashville. He scored a goal and added an assist. The goal is his third of the season. He and Phil Kessel terrorized the Preds in the second half of the contest and are showing a real chemistry together. Take full advantage.

Provided by Rotowire.com.
Sep 24: Van Riemsdyk scored a pretty goal in Tuesday's loss to Ottawa. He brought the puck out backwards from behind the net and then roofed it over Robin Lehner. He'll net 30 and maybe even 35 this season if he continues to use his body like that. This could be his breakout season.
