GM Peter Chiarelli announced Saturday that Boychuk has been diagnosed with a back sprain that will sideline the blueliner for approximately three-to-seven days, the Bruins' official site reports.
Coach Claude Julien clarified Boychuk's injury as a back rather than a head issue, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Boychuk, who was carted off the ice on a stretcher after absorbing a hit into the boards by Montreal's Max Pacioretty in Thursday's game, was cleared to fly back with the team to Boston after initially being taken to Montreal General Hospital for observation, the Bruins' official site reports. "He's obviously still injured, but we don't know the severity of it and I don't know all the details from it," coach Claude Julien noted after the game.
