RULES: WAIVERS & FREE AGENCY
TRANSACTIONS OVERVIEW (Prize-Eligible Leagues)
Team Owners can make changes to their lineup throughout the week. Players may be moved in or out of your team's active lineup based on the rules in place for your leagues. In Prize-Eligible leagues each individual player becomes locked at their current position in the active lineup or bench at the start of their team's first game of the day. Once locked, players may not be moved again until the next scoring period, at approximately 3 a.m. ET the next day. At that time, team owners may begin making changes again.
ACTIVATING / BENCHING PLAYERS
You decide which players to start for each day of competition. The Team page allows you to analyze each of your current players, review their performance (previous day/week, year to date etc.) and freely move players between your active roster and bench. Roster moves involving a player may be made right up until that player's team is scheduled to begin playing in their first game of the day.
When you make transactions, you must move one active player to the bench, or to waivers, when moving an inactive "benched" player to your active lineup. If you make a move that violates a roster slot, an error message will appear, notifying you to double-check the proposed transaction. You will need to ensure that you are moving players into eligible slots per your league settings.
FUTURE ROSTER MOVES
FLB 09 gives team owners in Prize-Eligible leagues the ability to modify their lineups for future days of MLB action. This can prove to be helpful if you will not have access to a computer (on vacation, business trip etc.) but you would like to make sure that you are receiving credit for players at each team roster slot. Go to your Team page and click on the links for the date(s) of interest to access your roster page for each future date. Then modify your roster.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that if you make any roster moves in the interim (adding/dropping a player or players) this will delete or clear any roster selections you made for future weeks.
ADDING / DROPPING PLAYERS
In Prize-Eligible leagues there are going to be many unclaimed players available in the player pool; these players are called free agents. You may want to pick up one of these free agents (players not currently on a team in your league) for your elite team. You can search the player pool by going to the Players page.
All Prize-Eligible leagues will observe ESPN's Undroppable Players list. The Undroppable Players list is comprised of select elite level players who cannot be dropped to waivers at any time during the baseball season.
NOTE: If you wish to claim a player from free agency, you must have an open roster slot or drop one of your current players in exchange.
FREE AGENCY AND CLAIM STATUS
Any undrafted player is available to add to your team immediately if he is listed as "FA" (free agent). Players listed in claim status are locked. This happens during games or the waiver claim period is in effect.
So when are unclaimed players locked? Each day, players may NOT be added or dropped on a team's roster or traded, from the beginning of their first game of the day time until the start of the next scoring period. Starting every day, the waiver period within your league (if you have one) will then begin and all players are available to be moved, claimed etc.
Waivers are the process by which team owners can select from the pool of available players who are not on a team's roster in the league. They may have been undrafted or dropped by owners. Owners can put a claim for that player, but must wait a specified amount of time until the waiver clears.
The team owner with the better waiver priority (closest to "1") that puts a claim on a player will receive the player when waivers clear. For example, if two or more owners put in claims for Dioner Navarro, the claim with the best waiver priority is awarded Navarro.
NOTE: Waiver Priority is in numeric order; i.e. a team owner with waiver priority one gets precedence over a team owner with a waiver priority of 10. All available players not on waivers are considered free agents.
To help prevent the issue of cycling players through free agency, a player that is added and released on the same day will remain a free agent. Intentional cycling of players through waivers is a serious offense and may result in a team being banned in fantasy baseball.
To learn more about the waivers process for your league, review your League Settings on the League Office page.
PRIZE-ELIGIBLE LEAGUE WAIVERS
All players not on a fantasy roster will be placed on waivers, they will be individually locked at the start of their team's first game of the day. Their status will change from "FA" to Claim. Players dropped by an owner reside on waivers for at least 48 hours before clearing waivers. At the clearance time, the player is assigned to either a team (if a claim was made) or the free-agent pool (if no claim was made). Unclaimed players not acquired during the waiver period become free agents and may be picked up on a first-come, first-serve basis without affecting a team's waiver position.
If multiple claims are submitted for a particular player, the claim is resolved based on the waiver position of each involved team. A team's waiver position is the relative power you have when selecting a player off of the waiver wire. When more than one team requests a player in waivers, the player is awarded to the team with the better waiver position (closest to "1"). When a claim is resolved, the waiver position for the team that receives the player is changed to the lowest possible priority 10, and all the other teams move up a position.
WAIVER SYSTEM (In-season)
Prize-Eligible leagues use the following method for determining which team has priority in waiver claims.
- Move to last after claim, never reset order - The team which makes the most recent pickup is automatically moved to the last slot.
Waiver claims can be made at any time before the player clears waivers. Any player who is dropped within 48 hours of a game start is not available to be added to a team roster, and will appear on waivers 8 hours after being placed on waivers.
Waivers process daily beginning at 3 a.m. ET.
