Spin: The A's have invited him to spring training to be a part of their competition for the starting job at third base. Health has been McPherson's biggest hurdle in recent seasons, but he could be a low-cost stopgap for the A's if they decide that top prospect Brett Wallace isn't quite ready for the job by Opening Day. McPherson missed the entire 2009 season with back trouble, so it remains to be seen if he'll be able to offer the A's anything this time around. Cabrera was waived by the Red Sox and subsequently filed for free agency. Spin: Cabrera long ago looked like a closer in waiting for the Indians, but he took a wrong turn following the first WBC and now is a fringe major league reliever. Adduci has been added to the Cubs' 40-man roster. Spin: He had a nice season at Double-A Tennessee in 2009, compiling a .300/.377/.388 line in 467 at-bats. Adduci's greatest asset is speed (35-for-47 on stolen-base attempts), but he may lack the power (four homers) necessary to be an everyday player in the big leagues. Wilson has signed a minor league deal with the Royals. Spin: He'll once again be a depth guy at Triple-A, while it's unlikely that Wilson will see significant at-bats in Kansas City at any point during the 2010 season. The Jays have approached the Cubs about a trade involving Halladay, the team's official site reports. Spin: The Cubs can't take on the salary demands of Halladay, who is owed $15.75 million for 2010, without moving some payroll of their own and the Jays aren't willing to take Milton Bradley, who is owed $21 million over the next two years, as part of the return package so this trade talk may not have much legs. With Halladay set to test the free agent waters after the 2010 season you can be sure the rebuilding Jays will be looking to deal him this offseason. Cora filed for free agency. Spin: Cora played through torn ligaments in both thumbs, requiring surgery on each before the end of the season. If the Mets were smart they would re-sign him for middle infield depth as he is capable at both spots and solid in the clubhouse. Dessens filed for free agency. Spin: Dessens will look to earn a job out of spring training as bullpen depth. The Giants purchased the contract of Pucetas on Saturday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Spin: The move adds Pucetas to the team's 40-man roster, which protects him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. League Tools
