Scott Van Slyke
Jul 28: Van Slyke will see his playing time greatly reduced given the new outfield alignment, manager Don Mattingly revealed Sunday, reports the Dodgers' official site. Van Slyke should still see some at-bats versus left-hand pitching at the expense of Carl Crawford and/or Adrian Gonzalez, but his value remains limited to NL-only and deep mixed league formats for now.

Jul 22: Van Slyke didn't start Tuesday against Pittsburgh right-hander Vance Worley, but with a left-hander on the hill, Van Slyke pinch hit and blasted his ninth homer of the season later in the game. Van Slyke now has a .919 OPS. Not bad for a #5 outfielder.

Jul 12: Van Slyke was called the team's best defensive center fielder by manager Don Mattingly on Saturday, Eric Stephen of True Blue L.A. reports. Yet another ringing endorsement for a far better defensive center fielder, top prospect Joc Pederson. Van Slyke is starting to get a few starts against right-handers, thus raising his value in NL-only formats.

Jul 11: Van Slyke will start against Padres right-hander Jesse Hahn on Friday. For the second straight day, Van Slyke is getting the nod in center field against a right-handed starting pitcher while Andre Ethier takes a seat on the bench.

Jul 10: Van Slyke went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's win over the Paderes. After sitting out Wednesday's game, Van Slyke returned to the lineup in place of Andre Ethier and hit a two-out single in the fourth inning that drove in the first run of the game. Val Slyke is hitting .273 for the season and has had a hit in five straight starts.

Jul 10: Van Slyke is in the lineup Thursday against the Padres. Van Slyke was out of the lineup in favor of Andre Ethier on Wednesday and logged only one at-bat as a pinch hitter Tuesday, but he's back in the fold as the Dodgers face off against Odrisamer Despaigne and the Padres. Van Slyke will bat sixth and play center field.

Jul 8: Van Slyke is out of the lineup Tuesday at Detroit. Despite having a four-game hitting streak in his back pocket and the DH at the Dodgers' disposal, Van Slyke will take a seat in favor of Andre Ethier, who will play center field and bat sixth.

Jul 2: Van Slyke went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Indians. He took Scott Atchison deep for his seventh home run in the eighth inning. Van Slyke continues to serve in a reserve role for the Dodgers, and will remain there barring injury.

Jun 27: Van Slyke was ejected from Friday's game for arguing balls and strikes. Just an FYI for those curious about the reason behind his early exit. Andre Ethier (knee) took over for Van Slyke in center field Friday night.

Jun 27: Van Slyke is getting the start in center field and batting fifth Friday against the Cardinals, Eric Stephen of True Blue L.A. reports. This is his fourth start of the season against a right-handed pitcher, and it comes because Andre Ethier is having a horrible month at the plate and also hit a ball off his knee Thursday. Van Slyke will continue to be a fairly regular contributor for the Dodgers, at least in the short term.

Jun 16: Van Slyke is in Monday's lineup batting fifth and spelling Adrian Gonzalez at first base, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports. With lefty Tyler Matzek on the hill for Colorado, Van Slyke gets the nod. He's batting a healthy .289/.458/.800 versus southpaws this year.

Jun 15: Van Slyke will start in center field and bat sixth in the order Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Although Van Slyke isn't seeing quite enough playing time to warrant fantasy consideration in most formats, it appears as if he'll continue to get starts over Andre Ethier when the Dodgers face left-handed pitching. Van Slyke is hitting .295 against southpaws this season, and has received the starting nod the last four times the Dodgers have faced a lefty.

Jun 9: Van Slyke went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored and two walks Monday against the Reds. Van Slyke only had four home runs and seven RBI entering Monday, so to say this game was an aberration is an understatement. It may have earned him another start or two, but he's still not likely to see regular playing time.

May 16: Van Slyke went 1-for-4 on the night facing the Diamondbacks on Friday, as he picked up his fourth homer of the year in a rare start for the Dodgers. You won't see too many starts from Van Slyke this year, but it's nice to see he's bringing excellent power production (4 HR in 51 AB)in limited at-bats (.635 SLG).

May 2: Van Slyke started in left field in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Twins, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two walks, a steal and two runs in the 12-inning win. A fascinating game for Van Slyke, who struck out in his other two at-bats. Don't get used to him stealing bases -- Van Slyke only swiped two bags in 80 games over the last two years. But the power's for real off the Dodgers' bench.

Apr 23: Van Slyke will get his first start at first base of the season Wednesday, the Dodgers' official Twitter feed reports. Adrian Gonzalez is getting his first day off of the season, so this is going to be a rare scenario moving forward, barring injury.

Apr 18: Van Slyke went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk Friday night against the Diamondbacks. Making just his fifth start of the season, Van Slyke made his presence known by belting his second home run of the year, and his first since his March 22 start in Australia. He's logged just 20 at-bats this season due to a crowded Dodger outfield, but has been able to record seven hits, five of which have gone for extra bases.

Mar 22: Van Slyke belted baseball's first home run of the regular season in the Dodgers' 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks in Australia. He also added a double and a walk, while driving in two batters. With Carl Crawford being held out of the Australia series as he recovers from minor shoulder soreness, Van Slyke slotted in at left field, batting fifth in the lineup. He should maintain a prominent position in the batting order for the second game against the Diamondbacks, before falling back into a reserve role once the Dodgers start playing stateside again.

Mar 16: Van Slyke will be part of the Dodgers' 30-man roster for their opening series against the Diamondbacks in Australia. Van Slyke will be a backup outfielder/first baseman when the Dodgers are at full strength, but neither Matt Kemp (ankle) nor Carl Crawford (personal) will travel to Australia, so there is a chance Van Slyke opens the year with two starts in left field.
