Trades are an agreement between two teams to exchange one or more players. Trades can be processed with an uneven number of players as long as they do not violate any roster settings.
This option sets the number of trades a team can perform during the season. In LM leagues only, this setting can be changed by the League Manager at any time during the season.
No Trades - Only the League Manager can trade players between teams.
No Limit - Default setting. No limit to the number of trades a team can make. Limited - A specific number of transactions is selected (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20). Once that number of accepted & processed trades has been reached the team will not be allowed to propose or accept anymore trades. However this will NOT limit their ability to add/drop players via waivers.
This setting determines if the league uses a deadline for trading players between teams. This option is offered to prevent teams from sandbagging their team at the end of the season by trading blue-chip players for average players. In LM leaguies only, this setting can be changed by the League Manager at any time during the season.
No Trade Deadline - Trades are allowed for the duration of the MLB season. Weeks 12-22 - If selected, trades will no longer be accepted or proposed after the specified date. NOTE: Trades accepted before the trade deadline but are scheduled to process after the deadline, will still process normally.
TRADE REVIEW PERIOD (League Manager Leagues ONLY)
This is the period of time allowed for the other team owners to decide if a trade is fair. League Managers can determine the span of time for the review period. If one of the "hour" review periods is selected and the trade is not vetoed it will process within the hour (not that exact minute) when the period expires. This setting can be changed by the League Managers at any time during the season.
"24 hours" Example: A trade is accepted at 11:05 a.m. ET on Friday in a league with a 24 hour Trade Review period. If the trade is not vetoed it will process within the hour after the 11:05 a.m. ET time on Saturday (24 hours after the time the trade was accepted on Friday).
24 hours - Default setting
48 hours 72 hours
No Trade Review - Trades process immediately once the trade is accepted.
NOTE: Any trades which are pending at the time the Trade Review Period is changed will be grandfathered. The change to the Trade Review Period will only be used for trades moving forward.
VOTES TO VETO TRADE
ESPN introduced this option to allow leagues to decide whether a trade is fair to both parties and to prevent collusion. The power to veto trades can be given to the league owners or only to the League Manager. If league owners are given veto power, the number of owner votes will determine whether a trade is vetoed. This setting can be changed by the League Manager at any time during the season.
NOTE: If the setting is changed while a trade is pending, the trade will be grandfathered to use the setting that was in place when the trade was accepted.
League Manager Only - If selected, all accepted trades can only be vetoed by the League Manager within the time length specified in the "Trade Review Period" setting. All team owners are given the option to submit their comments about the trade (which only the League Manager can view). If the trade is vetoed by the League Manager, the trade is immediately cancelled. If the trade is upheld by the League Manager (or the time length expires without a decision from the League Manager), the trade processes according to the league's "Trade Review Period" setting. Specific number of teams - If selected, the number of teams listed must vote to veto the trade in order for it to be cancelled. If the number is not reached by the time the "Trade Review Period" expires, the trade will be upheld. If the number is reached, the trade will be immediately cancelled. Teams with more than one owner will only receive one veto vote, but either owner may cast it.
DRAFT PICK TRADING (League Manager Leagues ONLY)
Owners in LM leagues can make trades involving draft picks. These types of transactions can only take place prior to the Keeper deadline for LM Leagues. Trades can be made involving exchanges of draft picks only, or trading some combination of player(s) and draft picks. It is important to note that you are trading for an owner's pick in a given round, and there is no assurance that the overall slot will remain the same.
- EXAMPLE: You trade your first-round pick (2nd overall for Team A) for another owner's first-round pick (5th overall for Team B) and fifth-round pick (Team B) . Following processing of the trade, if the League Manager manipulates the initial draft order and Team B now has the 8th pick overall, that is the pick that you will end up receiving (not the 5th overall pick). It would then be your responsibility to discuss this matter with your League Manager.
If you trade and receive a net total of draft picks greater than the number of rounds in the draft then the draft will end and you will not acquire any players following the pick in which you complete your roster maximum.
- EXAMPLE: You have 12 draft picks after trading and your draft is scheduled to run for 10 rounds. After 10 picks (no matter what round) your draft would end. You will be able to watch the draft process, but when it reaches your selection you will be skipped over and no players will be added to your team.
