Jesus Montero News Archive
Montero showed up to spring training a whopping 40 pounds over the target weight the Mariners gave him heading into the offseason, the Seattle Times reports.
Montero, who played 22 games in the Venezuelan Winter League, showed up to camp out of shape and on a weight-loss program, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. "I gained a lot of weight in my country," he admitted. "So, now, I'm on a program to lose weight. I'm working really hard to get my weight back. I wasn't doing nothing (after finishing winter ball), just eating."
Montero will work primarily at first base for the time being, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
