McCarthy credits changes to his offseason workouts -- increased upper body strength training -- and his between-starts routine for his health through the first half of the season, the Arizona Republic reports. I still lifted everything, got everything baseball strong, but I really tried to grow into a stronger upper body."
McCarthy threw an excellent game Friday facing the Padres as he pitched seven innings, giving up one run on six hits while striking out seven hitters in picking up only his second win of the season (2-10).
