Cueto struggled with his command against the Braves in Sunday's loss. "He was up," Reds manager Bryan Price said of Cueto. "Sometimes when you talk about a pitcher's stuff, stuff only correlates when it's commanded and well located. And today, I thought he had good stuff but without the command that really made it the typical Johnny Cueto type of stuff. And [the Braves] took advantage of it, to their credit."
Cueto notched his second win Tuesday by holding the Brewers to two runs on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
The Reds could have skipped one of their starters to keep Cueto on his regular four days' rest after Saturday's rainout but opted against it.
Cueto gave up a crucial bases loaded double to Yadier Molina on Friday night to break up a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning, ultimately leading to the Reds' loss. He allowed four runs on six hits and a walk (intentional), striking out 10.
Cueto threw seven shutout innings on Opening Day against the Pirates, striking out 10 while allowing four hits and a walk. He got a no-decision after Kevin Gregg blew the lead in the eighth inning.
