"He made it clear," Boston manager John Farrell said. "He wanted to be back on the mound [Wednesday]. With only 12 pitches thrown [Tuesday], he is fresh and wanted to make sure we got an opportunity to work through some things."
Kimbrel allowed four runs on three hits and a walk without recording an out in Tuesday night's 7-2 loss to Texas.
Kimbrel secured his 17th save in Friday's 5-4 victory by working around a hit and a walk in the ninth inning.
