Henderson gave up three earned runs on three hits (two home runs) with one strikeout in one inning Tuesday against the Cardinals.
Henderson pitched an efficient eighth inning Friday against the Pirates, retiring the side in just 11 pitches.
Henderson's outing Tuesday was enough to move him into the set-up mix with Will Smith and Brandon Kintzler, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports.
Henderson struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning in Tuesday's victory over the Phillies.
Manager Ron Roenicke reiterated Tuesday that Henderson will be eased back into the later innings, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "Ideally, I would like to get him a couple outings where the game wasn't on the line. That's ideal," manager Ron Roenicke said. "I'm not saying we can do that because if he has to pitch in a game where it's an inning I need him to pitch, then he'll pitch. We want him as a closer. That's what we want."
It appears manager Ron Roenicke plans to go with Francisco Rodriguez as his closer until further notice, relegating Henderson to a setup role for now, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. "We had a conversation about Henderson [on Sunday] and until we feel like he's throwing the way he can and was last year, we're going to put him in a role that we can give him a couple of outings to get his stuff back and his confidence going," Roenicke said.
Henderson was bypassed for Monday's Opening Day save opportunity, as manager Ron Roenicke turned to Francisco Rodriguez to finish off a 2-0 win over the Braves. Roenicke said after the game that he chose not to go with Henderson due to his struggles toward the end of spring training, Tthe Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Henderson has struggled so far this spring, posting a 7.71 ERA and a .321 BAA in seven innings of work. He also has five strikeout and three walks.
