I know what you are thinking:

"If only the football season lasted 36 weeks." Well, it doesn't. It turns out that playing more than, say, 20 NFL games in a calendar year tends...Changing Gears

ESPN.com Fantasy Stock Car mock draft

Scott

by Scott Engel

Just before the Budweiser Shootout, we gathered some of the top racing experts at ESPN.com for our first fantasy racing mock draft. Our six-team draft is based on standard ESPN Fantasy Stock Car rules and should serve as a great reference guide and cheat sheet for your own drafts. I have also added in my comments for each round, along with ESPN.com Fantasy Racing writers Christopher Harris' and Mark Garrow's thoughts on how the mock draft went down. The Hendrick clan was well represented, as well as Roush and Joe Gibbs. Those teams seem to be the clear favorites heading into...ESPN.com Fantasy Stock Car mock draft

About 20 drivers have a legitimate shot to win a race no matter where NASCAR goes; not coincidentally, this "elite" group is comprised totally of drivers from multi-car teams. Inside our top 20, you'll find four Hendrick Motorsports drivers, four from Roush-Fenway Racing, three from Joe Gibbs Racing, three from Richard Childress Racing, two from Penske Racing and one each from DEI, Evernham-Gillett Motorsports, Ganassi Racing and Petty Enterprises. These are the superstars of Sprint Cup, the only drivers who've got legitimate chances to make the Chase for the Championship, and the anchors of your fantasy team. Get at least two...2008 Driver Profiles: No. 1-20

In Sprint Cup's vast midsection, you'll find up-and-comers and former Chasers, a few big-organization remnants and some open-wheel legends. That'll be one of the biggest challenges in fantasy NASCAR this season: figuring out which open-wheelers are going to be able to make a Juan-Pablo-Montoya-esque transition to stock cars. (Come to think of it, they'd probably prefer to be better than Montoya was in '07, or at least to ruffle fewer feathers.) Will Dario Franchitti be the next Ganassi Rookie of the Year? Will Sam Hornish Jr. shake off his bad NASCAR experiences from last season? Can Patrick Carpentier or Jacques Villeneuve...2008 Driver Profiles: Nos. 21-40

We've listed 10 possible sleepers, but of course, finding sleepers in today's Sprint Cup racing is like finding a bargain on the New York Yankees. As is true in most of human experience, the rich will dominate. If anyone below our 40th ranking contends for a top-20 finish in points, it'll be a tremendous upset and a monolithic accomplishment. However, ignore this group at your peril. There are past Cup champions here and, more importantly for fantasy purposes, road-course ringers who should be on all fantasy radar screens. Boris Said and Ron Fellows are gold at Sears Point and Watkins Glen...2008 Driver Profiles: Nos. 41-50
